Mannus and Glen Innes Correctional Centres

Background

Both Mannus Correctional Centre and Glen Innes Correctional Centre were previously inspected in 2018 as part of the Inspection of Five Minimum Security Correctional Centres in Non-Metropolitan NSW.

Where we inspected

Glen Innes Correctional Centre is a facility for minimum security male offenders, with a maximum inmate population of 164. The centre is located 45 kilometres east of Glen Innes and 615 kilometres north of Sydney in the Northern Tablelands. The Ngarabul people are the traditional custodians of the land that Glen Innes CC is located on.

Mannus Correctional Centre is a minimum security facility for male offenders with a maximum inmate population of 164. The centre is approximately 515 kilometres south of Sydney and 115 kilometres south-east of Wagga Wagga, located near Tumbarumba. The Ngarigo people are the traditional custodians of the land that Mannus CC is located on.

Recommendations

The Inspector has made 30 recommendations in the report. These include systemic and facility specific improvements in:

  • conditions and treatment of inmates
  • staffing and custodial support and procedures
  • access to health and services for inmates
  • custodial infrastructure
