St Heliers Correctional Centre (St Heliers CC) was previously inspected in November 2017 as part of the Inspection of Five Minimum Security Correctional Centres in Non-Metropolitan NSW (PDF, 8.5 MB) report. This inspection focused solely on St Heliers CC.

Where we inspected

St Heliers CC is a minimum-security correctional centre for men located at Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter Region of NSW. It is one of seven stand-alone custodial centres for males classified as minimum-security in NSW.

Recommendations

The Inspector made 24 recommendations. These include systemic and facility specific improvements in:

• Conditions and treatment of inmates
• Staffing and custodial support and procedures
• Access to health and services for inmates
• Custodial infrastructure
