John Morony Correctional Centre

Background

John Morony Correctional Centre (JMCC) was previously inspected in July 2018 as part of the 2021 Health Services in NSW Correctional Facilities report. This inspection focused solely on JMCC.

Where we inspected

JMCC is a maximum security correctional centre for sentenced and remand male inmates.  The centre is located on Dharug country, at the Francis Greenway Correctional Complex in Berkshire Park. Geoffrey Pearce CC and Dillwynia CC are co-located at this correctional complex.

Recommendations

The Inspector made 36 recommendations within the report. These include systemic and facility specific improvements in:

  • Conditions and treatment of inmates
  • Staffing and custodial support and procedures
  • Access to health and services for inmates
  • Custodial infrastructure
