Shortland Correctional Centre and Cessnock Correctional Centre
The inspection of Shortland Correctional Centre and Cessnock Correctional Centre is scheduled to occur in March 2023.
- Shortland Correctional Centre is a maximum security facility for remand and sentenced male inmates.
- Cessnock Correctional Centre is a medium and minimum security facility for remand and sentenced male inmates.
- Both centres are located on the Cessnock Correctional Complex, 151km north-west of Sydney.
Our inspection will focus on:
- custodial conditions, including safety and security
- treatment, care, and well-being of inmates
- rehabilitation of inmates, including programs, education, employment, and preparation of release
- resources and systems, including the staffing and management of each correctional centre
The Inspector of Custodial Services may consider any other relevant matters in the course of this inspection.
