Broken Hill Correctional Centre

We conducted an inspection of Broken Hill Correctional Centre in February 2022.

Broken Hill Correctional Centre is a medium and minimum security facility that accommodates up to 89 men and women
the centre accommodates for a high percentage of Aboriginal men and women
the centre is located 1190km west of Sydney in the town centre of Broken Hill.

Our inspection focused on:

custodial conditions, including safety and security
treatment, care and wellbeing of inmates, including privacy
rehabilitation of inmates, including programs, education, and preparation for release
resources and systems, including the staffing and management of each correctional centre.

The Inspector of Custodial Services may consider any other relevant matters in the course of this inspection.
